How the bus service adds to the overall service offered by the Gautrain
1. How it improves station access
The Gautrain bus service provides safe, comfortable and reliable passage to
and from all Gautrain stations, with the exception of the OR Tambo
International Airport. Every second bus is equipped with a wheelchair ramp
and a wheelchair bay
Buses carry large numbers of passengers, thereby making it the most efficient
motorised access mode. As a result, it should be given access priority over
other motorised modes.Other motorised modes should not interfere with bus
feeder access. Wherever possible, bus flow should be separated from other
traffic and a one-way flow is preferred and this will help more people to get
access to the railway station.
Buses help increase frequency at the railway station throughout the day as
buses will be ferrying passengers from areas which are not accessible by rail.
Buses help expand access to neighbourhood areas and destinations which
are not reachable by rail networks.
2) How it contributes to door-to-door journey times
Lessens Traffic Congestion
Passengers riding on buses means fewer car drivers, lessening the number of
vehicles to clog up streets and freeways.
Due to vehicle congestion many cities have dedicated bus lanes, so using
public transport within the city can be not only cheaper, but also faster.
Especially when you don't need worry about finding a parking space, or how
much will it cost, when traveling on public transport
