Police Interview/Business Attire Guidelines

Here are some guidelines for both men and women:
• A two-piece, matched suit is always best and the safest choice
• Conservative colours, such as navy, dark grey, and black are always professional
• Solid fabrics are usually the best choice
• Your suit should fit properly ( this includes the jacket)
• Everything you wear must be clean and pressed with all tags and dangling threads
removed
Specifics for Men:
• Ties should be conservative
• Shirts should be long-sleeved, even in summer
• Socks should be dress socks that compliment the suit colour
• Shoes should be dress shoes
• Your belt should match your shoe colour
• Jewellery should be kept to a minimum
• Earrings and other piercings should be removed before an interview ( I will not apply
this to our class)
Specifics for Women:
• Skirts should have a conservative hemline and fit
• Small slits in skirts are fine; large slits are inappropriate
• A tailored blouse or top should be worn underneath the suit jacket
• Blouses and tops should never be low cut. Cleavage has no place in the interview.
Also, you should never wear a sleeveless top unless it is under a jacket
• Shoes should have closed toes and should not have extreme heels
• Heels should also be comfortable. ( the interview is not the time to try new heels)
• Hosiery should be plain and sheer in neutral colours that complement the suit
• Jewellery should be conservative and simple
• Cosmetics should be simple and appropriate

Grooming:
Good grooming is important for both men and women.
• Hair should be clean, neat, and out of the face
• Men with facial hair should make sure it is well groomed
• Nailed should be clean
• Shoes should be polished and heels should be in good repair
• Clothing should not have missing buttons and should be free of lint and pet hair
