, Group Dynamics refers to, “a set of behavioural and psychological processes that
occur within a social group or between groups. It refers to the nature of groups, the laws of
their development, and their interrelationship with individuals, other groups, and larger
institutions” (Cartwright and Zander, 1968).
Upon completing “part B” of “Assignment 1 - Survival Lab”, myself, along with the
other individuals in my group, were able to effectively identify and apply aspects of group
dynamics in order to successfully work together toward the project goal within a group
setting. Within the group, each member contributed toward the dynamics of the group,
dynamics of the goal, and the dynamics of the path of the goal.
Dynamics of the Group - The objective of the assignment called for individuals to form a
group of five, and within that group, come to a consensus on which five items would be most
essential to possess, in order to survive nuclear fallout in a nuclear shelter, given a list of
twenty-five items to choose from. After gathering in an online breakout room within a zoom
call, the group had to assign a “ recorder” who would gather, record, analyze and simplify
ideas and opinions upon concluding as to which five items would be most essential to
possess. In an effort to establish order and complete the task most efficiently, I immediately
took the responsibility of the recorder upon myself and quickly adapted the leadership role
within the group.
It was quickly recognized and understood that it is crucial that each group member
participated in decision making and providing, along with receiving, feedback. Thus, in order
to gauge the list for the top five selections, it was asked that each group member read out
their top five items. The recorder then wrote down each group member’s list. In doing so, the
