Sport – all forms of physical activity which, through casual or organized participation, aim at expressing
or improving physical fitness and mental well-being, forming social relationships or obtaining results in
competition at all levels. (The council of Europe 2001)



Sport Management – The study and practice of all people, activities, businesses, or organizations
involved in producing, facilitating, promoting, or organizing any sport-related business or product (Pitts
& Stollar 2013)

*Vertical integration is a strategy that allows a company to streamline its operations by taking direct
ownership of various stages of its production process rather than relying on external contractors or
suppliers.

A company may achieve vertical integration by acquiring or establishing its own suppliers,
manufacturers, distributors, or retail locations rather than outsourcing them. However, vertical
integration may be considered risky potential disadvantages due to the significant initial capital
investment required.



Horizontal integration occurs when a company adds new products and services to its organizational
structure.



*Retail is the activity of selling products direct to the public, usually in small quantities.

, Diversification – the act of adding new products to the company's product mix.

Decentralized organization – the act of developing separate divisions, subcompanies, or departments
that focus on certain tasks or products of the company and can be run autonomously.

Watershed events – events or developments in an industry that cause significant changes throughout
the industry.

Market share – the ranked position of a company in a market that is determined by the percentage of a
company's product sales.

Age of organization – a period during the 1880s and 1890s during which companies began to organize
and market sport to specific markets such as youth.



The more violance and danger involved, the wider the gap between active and passive involment (Van
Bottenburg 2001).
