Should marijuana be used to cure cancer

Cancer occurs when something goes wrong in cell division or other parts of the cell cycle.
Treatments for cancer can be an unpleasant and harmful experience. While recreational
marijuana use can be addictive and potentially harmful, some studies have shown that medical
marijuana has curative qualities in cancer treatments. These studies show that when carefully
used and prescribed by a doctor, the medical use of marijuana should be considered in
treatment.

Cancer has various treatments such as chemotherapy, radiation, or surgery. But these
treatments can cause nausea, vomiting, hair loss, appetite loss, Thrombocytopenia, depression,
insomnia, and many other potential side effects. Chemotherapy targets cells that grow and
divide quickly as well as every other cell throughout your body. Metastatic cancer is cancer that
is spread to other organs. In recent studies, medical marijuana has helped slow down the rate at
which metastatic breast cancer is spread. Medical marijuana can prevent certain side effects on
some patients that are undergoing chemotherapy or radiation and helps relieve the pain and
discomfort. This does not work on every patient but many patients have come back with positive
feedback after using the drug. The information came from a reliable source as the source
comes from an organization and network

A common trend many people are following is veganism and using only natural products. Since
marijuana is a plant some patients would prefer to use marijuana over certain medications. 40%
of marijuana is non-psychoactive which means a substance does not have a chemical base and
will not act primarily upon the central nervous system where it could alter brain functions. Since
it is non-psychoactive it will not result in temporary changes in perception, mood,
consciousness, and behavior. This 40% of the plant is known as Cannabidiol (CBD) and this
part of the plant is what would be used in the treatment. The other 60% is THC. THC is the part
of the plant that gets you “high”. The THC is psychoactive and does affect the mind or mental
processes. By manipulating the marijuana plant to achieve higher contents of CBD and lower
contents of THC, this makes the plant less psychoactive and will potentially provide cancer-
fighting benefits of the CBD. The manipulated plant was tested on animals that had cancer and
scientists discovered there was a disruption in the growth of tumor cells. Unfortunately, there
are legal restrictions that have been placed on the drug so research and testing on humans are
extremely limited.

However, since not all of the contents of the THC in the manipulated plant have been extracted
there is still a chance a person could potentially get addicted to it. The THC is a neurotoxin
which means it damages/impairs the function of the nerve tissue which could lead to severe
problems if abused. Since marijuana has been marketed as a “medicine” and not as a drug a
reliable organization has stated that people, especially children, do not view marijuana to be as
dangerous as children did 20 years ago. Since children have thought of the drug as medication
they could misunderstand or misinterpret the drug as safe. All medication (even FDA approved
medication) has side effects. Marijuana should be treated like any other medication would be
treated.

Doctors and pharmaceutical companies are aware of the dangers that can occur with the
overuse of marijuana. The companies have clearly printed the proper dosage and
recommended amount on how much the drug should be consumed appropriately and lead to no
or hardly any side effects/ risk. Even though these companies have placed/printed safety
precautions the US FDA still has not legalized marijuana. The banning and restrictions placed
