The Importance of Self-love
In a society where social beauty standards are skyrocketing, the need for self-love is
more salient than ever. The beauty standards set by society are usually unattainable as
they are unrealistic and often highly manipulated. One of the hardest things to do as a
female today is to love oneself. Women, especially young girls, often question, "why do I
not look like that?", after looking at highly photoshopped and airbrushed images of
Goddess-like women figures on social media platforms or magazines that showcase
women with minor flaws and extreme beauty. From skinny to curvy physiques, everyone
is fighting to achieve a definition of beauty that ultimately does not exist. It is easy to get
absorbed into this materialistic world where people focus on their flaws instead of
embracing and celebrating their true selves. While others may argue that self-love
equates to self-absorption and arrogance, in a society where beauty standards are
skewed, self-love is about much more and is indispensable.
