- Composites are produced when two or more materials or
phases are used together to form a combination of propertie
that cannot be achieved otherwise
- Many composite materials have been created to improve
properties like stiffness, toughness, ambient and high
temperature strength

phases in common:
• A matrix phase which is
continuous and surrounds the
other phase, called the
dispersed phase
