Hi, and good afternoon. I am super happy to return to my old stomping ground and talk to
you guys about a subject I wish someone would have spoken to my class about. It is a subject
that many people shy away from because it makes them uncomfortable. However, you will all
learn about it one way or another, so it could be from someone who cares and has little
knowledge in this area.

So, to start, I want to tell you just how critical you are to this community and the future of
this world. I say this because teenagers do not hear it enough! You guys are needed, and You are
wanted! Your children are needed And wanted! However, we need you and your children to be
healthy and ready! That is why I am here today! I am here to talk to you about the risks and
consequences of having sex and getting pregnant while you are still a teenager. I have walked the
road of struggle and heartache that being a teen parent brings if I can reach just one of you today
that chooses to continue not to have sex until you are out of your teens or convince a couple to
stop and wait until you are older than my struggle and heartache did not go in vain! So thank you
for being here with me today. I will try to keep this as entertaining and informative as I can!

Teenagers are an essential part of the community, and sometimes as teenagers, we make
choices that we do not fully understand the consequences of, and those could potentially end up
fatal. Not because you are a bad people but because you lack the knowledge. This is why teenage
pregnancy is a community health concern and why an organization called Healthy People 2030
focuses on its objective and goal to reduce unintended pregnancy by increasing birth control and
family planning services (CDC, 2021). A couple of the goals I have adopted are to increase the
population of teenagers who have never had sex, or if they do choose to have sex do it protected
by using birth control to prevent getting pregnant. Moreover, do not forget about our guys. A
goal is to increase condom use by guys. Also, my favorite is teaching teens under the age of 18
what sex is and why it is good to hold off until your body and mind have a chance to mature.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, teenage pregnancy is when
a woman between the ages of 13-19 gets pregnant (Pflugradt, 2019). A teenage pregnancy, as
defined by the American Pregnancy Association, is a pregnancy that occurs for a woman under
the age of 20, including girls 12 and under (2018). A woman can get pregnant if she has vaginal
sex with a man at any age after she is begun having regular monthly periods (Teen Pregnancy
Issues and Challenges, 2018). One of the best ways to prevent pregnancy is by using birth
control, such as the IUD, condoms or oral contraceptives, and providing easy access to such
things (Raja, D, 2018).
