chpt. 7 -- periodic properties of elements
This is intro. to Chemistry class notes on periodic properties of elements. This document goes into detail about periodic properties, core and shell electrons, the valence electrons dictate properties, effective nuclear charge, hydrogen and helium models, Zn increasing across a period, shielding, core electrons shielding valence electrons, Na, Zn changing as you increase n, rationalizing a basic model, trends, calculating electrons, approximating the size of atoms and molecules, Zeff affecting an elements size, summarizing the effect of Zeff on the atomic radius, comparing atoms in a different period, the atomic radius increasing as down and to the left on the periodic table, the important factors when determining relative size, relative atomic radius to determine relative bond lengths, the periodic trend in atomic radius, cation radii being decreased, anionic radii being increased, comparing ions with an equal # of electrons, comparing isoelectronic ions, and ionization energy.
