Physical symptoms may include tremors, ticks, disorganized speech, agitation, and even hostile behavior. C. Reasons for Choosing Topic 1. I have found schizophrenia to be interesting because I have had a couple of people in my life that has had symptoms like schizophrenia, although not diagnosed. 2. I do not have any professional experience with schizophrenia. 3. I want to become a therapist one day and find the depth of our minds to be interesting. I have also always wondered how we determine what reality is. Maybe people with mental illness just see a world we can’t. There is no known cause either way, and I find that interesting. II. Discussion A. Detailed Description of Disorder 1. Schizophrenia may begin with positive symptoms, which is when a behavior change is noticed. The disorder may be accompanied by behavioral issues that can be signs for family and physicians, such as agitation, aggression, delusions, and social withdrawal (Correll & Schooler, 2020). 2. Although the cause is unknown, research has found that genetics plays a significant role. If one of your parents has schizophrenia, you are more likely to develop it by adolescence.
