P5- Explain how and why groups of customers are targeted for selected
products’.
For this task I am going to explain the difference between customers and
buyers. I will include examples to show my reasons, and also i will
explains how customers can be influenced by the purchasing. And i will
talk about segmentation and give different segmentations that Starbucks
uses for business-to-business, customers and buyers.
What is meant by the term ‘customer’?
Customer is a person who buys products or services, different from
consumers which are the ones who will utilise the item bought. Example, if
you buy yourself a product you are the customer and consumer at the
same time, however if you buy a product for someone, you will be the
customer and this someone will be the consumer.
What is meant by the term buyer?
The term buyer means that you can purchase a product but you won’t
always be customers.
Buyer can be someone who buys and never returns to the shop again,
while customers are people who regularly purchases in the same shop or
buys from there often.
However buyer are not always individuals, they can be someone inside a
business who purchases from another business (BUSINESS-TO-BUSINESS).
Explain how consumers are influenced with their purchasing decisions
with some examples.
If the marketer is able to know the buyer’s behaviour in terms of what
they will decide to buy or what they will want, the marketer will be in a
better position to target products/ service at them. The influence is
focused upon the person who will buy it but the targeted person could be
someone else. Example, if a dad wants to buy his son a toy, the toy will be
targeted at the children but the item will have to influence the buyer to
purchase it.
And it works the same with the (business-to-business) too. Then it
wouldn’t be an individual, but a certain group inside the business will have
influence in the purchasing decision.
