PO200 Unit 6- Discussion Questions and Answer Explanations 2022/2023
Under our current federalist system, do you think states have too much power or does the federal government have too much power? Defend your choice. Under the current federalist system I think that the states and the federal government has power that is kind of equally dispersed. However, I do think that the federal government has a little bit more power than the states. I think that both parties have powers that are shared fairly between the two. Some examples are that federal government can declare war and the states can maintain militias, the federal government regulate interstate and foreign commerce and the states establish local governments. The federal government has a lot of power and If they were to be given even more power than I think that the states would not be needed and the people at the bottom would not have a voice when it comes to a lot of issues. Also, I feel that If the states were to be given more power that they would then want to become more than the states and maybe try to compete with the federal government. In the system today I think that the federal government is out of control at certain moments and that some of its members feel they are above the law when it comes to certain issues. The more laws that are being passed I think that us citizens are losing more and more of our rights to do certain things. I feel that the federal government is only out to enforce laws in the federal government’s best interest and not that of the country’s when they should be an organization that is here to protect the citizens.
