1.5
Healthy airways

there are small droplets of tar in a cigarette. The tar damages the respiratory tract. less oxygen can
be transported if you smoke, so less combustion. But for being a professional sporter you need
combustion. You can train your lungs by moving a lot. Like training and singing will make your lungs
stronger. But you need to watch out if there is a lot of smog in the air. Smog is a type of air pollution
that has largely of fine particulates.

Co2 level meter is for to look if the ventilation is good. Ventilation is the replacement of old air by
fresh air. You probably need that when your in a classroom with a lot of people. So there is more
carbon dioxide then oxygen and that’s bad for your health.

Hay fever is the most common allergy. It means you are allergic to pollen. (stuifmeelkorrels). The sex
of reproduction in plants will create pollen.

1.6
Breathing in a animal

Insects have a trachea ,trachea are heavily branched tubes inside the body of the insect. There are
openings that let the air go in the system of the trachea. They’re called spiracles. All the branches
have a large surface area so the gas exchange goes quickly.

Breathing in a fish

Fishes breath trough gills, they are located behind their head in the gill cavity. The gill is covered by
gill flaps. Every gill consists of a gill arch. And in that there is a large amount of gill lamellae. The walls
of a gill lamellae are very thin. It has a lot of blood vessels and a large surface area. Or gas exchange
to take place in very fast. (oxygen is absorbed- into the blood- turns out as carbon dioxide). To
refresh the water the fish will open and close his mouth so the water flows to the gill.

breathing in birds

birds have two nostrils on the top of the beak. Behind that you have the nasal chamber. The bird has
small lungs so there are air sacs on the outside of the lungs. There are some in front but more in the
back.

Unicellular organisms= amoeba are singe- celled organs. There respiration takes place through the
cell membrane. Its big enough to absorb oxygen and release carbon dioxide. No special respiratory
organs needed.

Multicellular organisms= the surface area is not big enough to absorb and release oxygen and
carbon dioxide. So they need special respiratory organs.
