GENEALOGY DISCUSSION
As the interview takes place the healthcare provider begins to understand the patient as a
whole. This paper includes two sections, a narrative, and a pictorial genogram. Information
obtained includes the patient's demographics, a hereditary condition, narrative discussion to
understand the family pedigree, review of patient and family history, synopsis of major health
and genetic disorders, and an educational summary on only one of the risk factors identified.
Narrative
Demographic identifiers
The patient is a 58-year-old Asian male, of Korean descent. This history is obtained from
the patient himself who is considered to be a reliable historian. He is currently employed as a
technician in a dental laboratory company. He has been married for 30 years and has one
daughter, ages 29. He lives with his wife now. The patient denies any current medical conditions
or concerns. However, the patient came to see a primary care provider (PCP) because he had a
simple physical check-up a few weeks ago at the Korean community center and found his blood
pressure was elevated and high cholesterol (LDL). The blood pressure was 155/96 mmHg and
total cholesterol was 260 mg/dL.
This patent was born in South Korea. He graduated Theological Seminary in S. Korea and
ministered as a church pastor for 10 years. In 2010, he moved to the US, and now is working in a
dental laboratory office as a technician. He is a non-smoker and denied any recreational drug use.
However, he drinks two to three cups of coffee a day and also drinks one glass of red wine once
a week. The patient eats more fish, chicken, vegetables, and fruit than beef and lamb. However,
the patient likes to eat Korean style salted fish and preserved food like kimchi. He likes jogging
and exercises two to three times a week, including cardio and strength training. The patient
