Classical Conditioning Classical conditioning can be described as one of many ways we learn and change behavior. Per Feldman, “Classical conditioning is a type of learning in which a neutral stimulus comes to elicit a response after being paired with a stimulus that naturally brings about that response” (Feldman, 2012 p. 169). My mother, who had developed a phobia against horses at the age of six due to the classical conditioning learning of fear. She had been around horses her entire life and the site of them did not “naturally bring about the response of fear” (Feldman, 2012 p. 169) to horses whenever she was around them. Horses were the neutral stimulus (NS). She first showed fear against horses after seeing and hearing a large horse kicking and neighing violently. The horse was new to their farm and repeated the disturbance daily. My grandfather ended up giving the horse away. The sight and sound of the horse is conditioned stimulus (CS). The commotion
