Hazards - Types e.g. cleaning materials are a chemical hazard.

- Definitions of hazard and risk.

A hazard is something that could cause harm.

A risk is the likelihood that someone will be harmed.

There are 7 types of hazards; environmental, biological, chemical,
psychological, working conditions, working practices and lack of
security systems.


Impact of hazard - on employer, employee and service user.

Employer- could face being taken to court, being fined or closed
down. The employer may also face financial loss.

Employee-Staff in care settings may develop mental illnesses such
as depression or stress and physical effects such as high blood
pressure if their workload is excessive. They may sustain back
injuries.

Service user/ individuals- may be injured or harmed, if
environmental hazards are not identified.
They may suffer an illness due to biological or psychological
hazards.


Harm and abuse - types of abuse.

Abuse is a violation of an individual’s human and civil rights by
another person or people.

Intentional abuse- harm is on purpose/ deliberate, such as financial
abuse.

Unintentional abuse- harm is accidental, such as poor care
provided.


Risk Assessment - identify hazard, assess risk, control measures.
