1 INTRODUCTION
Greetings to you and welcome as a PUB2606 (Environmental Affairs) student in the Department
of Public Administration and Management. We, as lecturers, are at your disposal and will gladly
assist you in your studies. Be assured of our enthusiasm and willingness to support you with

affairs in the public sector and can by no means be regarded as exhaustive. Hence, we do not

2 PURPOSE AND OUTCOMES
The purpose of module PUB2606 as well as specific outcomes that we hope you will be able to
accomplish, are described in this section.
2.1 Purpose

The purpose of module PUB2606 (Environmental Affairs) is to foster understanding in students
about the role that government plays in environmental affairs at national, provincial, and local
level and to investigate the contribution that other role-players, such as the international
community, make in this regard.
2.2 Outcomes

For this module, there are several outcomes that we hope you will be able to accomplish:

• Specific outcome 1: Students will be able to explain the different components of which the
environment consists by using examples, as well as understand the origin of the global
environmental dilemma and to indicate why government should deliver environmental
services.
• Specific outcome 2: Students will be able to understand the manifestation of environmental
management in the international, regional and national arena.
