The main classes of cell-surface signalling receptors
Three main classes of cell surface signalling receptor:
A) Ion-channel-coupled receptors
B) G-protein-coupled receptors
C) Enzyme-coupled receptors
How do G-protein coupled receptors work?
GPCRs have a wide range of signals
including odorants (smells), some hormones,
neurotransmitters and local signals.
G protein coupled receptor signalling: in the resting
state the trimeric G protein is tethered to the inner leaflet of
the plasma membrane and the α subunit is associated
with a molecule of GDP.
