Week 2-Practicum Experience Plan
The purpose of a Practicum Experience Plan (PEP) is to help outline
the involvement within the practicum and will help contribute to my growth
as a professional, as well as help me home in on my specialized knowledge
and skills. My experiences in my practicum can help provide a vital avenue
for my professional development. The purpose of this assignment is to
develop a PEP for my practicum experience for PRAC 6665- PMHNP Care
Across the Lifespan I. The following PEP will discuss one nursing theory and
one counseling theory that I chose to help guide in my clinical practice, as
well as individualized learning objectives and a projected timeline to meet
these objectives.
Overview:
The Nursing Theory that I chose to help in guiding my clinical practice,
is the Nightingale Environment Theory. As a Registered Nurse, this theory
holds dear to my heart, as it was formulated by Florence Nightingale, the
founder of modern nursing, and the first nursing theorist (Zborowsky, 2014).
The theory focuses on taking care of the patient's environment, such as fresh
air, pure water, sufficient food supplies, good lighting, and cleanliness of the
patient, to reach appropriate health goals. The patient's environment is a
huge factor in their overall health and wellness, from the way they eat and
drink to the use of tobacco, alcohol, and illicit drugs, to the environment they
surround themselves in (Zborowsky, 2014). Many health issues, including
mental health, could be prevented if people would take overall better care of
