HCA 610 Topic 2 DQ 1. Compare and contrast at least two methods of assessing health care organizations' operational needs and explain how they differ based upon a particular health care setting. “The shift to value-based payment mandates that hospitals and health systems do more with less. To be successful, organizations will need to cut costs, enhance operational efficiencies and improve quality and outcomes”(Jarousse, 2012, p.1). In order to assess their operational needs, facilities need to identify their strengths and weaknesses. This evaluation will help them determine their future goals and help them stay focused on the most critical components that they need to improve on. The five key steps to the operational assessment process include Gather information, get feedback, build a consensus, create an action plan and monitor performance. (Jarousse, 2012). Following these steps will help the organization review key components of their business and practices in order to determine the weaknesses they should focus on and the strengths they can build off of. These components are beneficial to any healthcare organization. It’s all part of the bigger strategic plan that every facility should work towards. The goals and focuses will be different depending on the health care setting, but the over all scope of determining the operational needs, will be the same. Jarousse, L.A. (2012). Operational assessment in strategic planning. Retrieved from
