It is the summary of Task 1. Includes all the necessary notes from the introductory textbooks (Plomin, Nettle, and Campbell) and it has all the notes for the mandatory articles: Raine, A. (2008). From genes to brain to antisocial behaviour.Current Directions in Psychological Science, 17(5), 323-328. On how to get from a genetic code to behavioural phenotypes. Alternative: Walum paper (B section). Miller, G. (2010). The Seductive Allure of Behavioral Epigenetics. Science, 329(5987), 24- 27. On epigenetics. Alternative: Champagne or Powledge paper Powledge, T. M. (2009). Epigenetics and Development: Understanding how epigenetics works at the molecular level can be mind-boggling. BioScience, 59(9), 736-741. doi: 10.1525/bio.2009.59.9.3 On epigenetics. Alternative: Champagne or Miller paper

Task 1:

DNA STRUCTRUE:

→ Genes are contained in chromosomes
→ DNA is the molecule responsible for heredity.
It has 2 functions:
to replicate itself and to direct the synthesis of proteins

,
, - Adenine and guanine are purines, nitrogenous bases with two organic rings.
- Cytosine and thymine are nitrogenous bases called pyrimidines, which have a single ring.
- Thus, purines (A and G) are about twice as wide as pyrimidines (C and T).

A purine-purine pair is too wide and a pyrimidine-pyrimidine pair too narrow to account for the 2-nm diameter
of the double helix.

Always pairing a purine with a pyrimidine, however, results in a uniform diameter:

, DNA → Genes (A piece of DNA)→ Chromosomes

Genome: Human set of DNA
sequences. The genome
contains ALL genetic
information.
