LISTENING COMPREHENSION
TIPS
Listening comprehensions are a way of assessing your language comprehension orally.
Listening comprehensions don’t have to be tedious if you implement the tips that are listed
below.
TIPS 😊:
1. SIT CLOSE TO YOUR TEACHER IF YOU CAN’T HEAR THEM
It would be a massive shame if you lose marks because you can’t hear what your teacher is
saying during a listening comprehension test. Ask to sit closer to your teacher if you are
battling to hear what they are saying.
2. TAKE EXTENSIVE NOTES DURING YOUR LISTENING COMPRHENSION TESTS
You will be given a chance to take notes so you should use this opportunity. Like written
comprehension tests, the trick to acing listening comprehension tests is being able to notice
important details.
3. USE THE FIRST TIME THAT THE EXTRACT IS BEING READ TO FULLY UNDERSTAND
WHAT IT IS ABOUT
It is difficult to take notes when you don’t fully understand what the extract that you are
being read is about. If you are going to be read an extract multiple times, it is advisable to
use the first time that it is read to fully grasp what it is about. Searching for the finer details
within in an extract will be much easier if you have an overarching idea of what the text is
about.
4. DON’T BECOME TOO WORRIED IF YOU DON’T KNOW THE ANSWER TO A QUESTION
😊. YOU MIGHT NOT ANSWER THE REST OF THE LISTENING COMPREHENSION
PROPERLY IF YOU LOSE YOUR FOCUS.
It is ok to not get 100% in school. Not knowing the answers to one of the questions in a
listening comprehension test is not a problem, but it might become a problem if you
become overly preoccupied with the difficult question. Maintain your focus even in the face
of adversity. Treat every question like a new opportunity to do well.
5. FIND OPPORTUNITIES TO USE YOUR EARS IN LESS STRESSFUL SITUATIONS
Audio media is readily available in this technological era 😊. Listen to things like podcasts,
radio, and audiobooks regularly in your spare time.
6. READ OUTLOUD.
Reading outloud before you fall asleep is a fantastic way to become desensitised to the
experience of hearing text.
