THE COLONIAL EMPIRES:
European powers colonised most of AF, AS and OC. The largest colonial empire belonged
to FR and GB who competed for AF and AS.
The other industrial colonies began building their colonial empires.
THE OCCUPATION AND ADMINISTRATION OF COLONIES:
3 stages in the colonisation of an area
● Occupation by conquest: military advantatge
● Political + administrative control: Adm + military commanders (indigenous
rebellions)
● Organisation of the colonial economy: Exploitation of natural resources

● Protectorates →Areas of strategic value
