ENG 105 Topic 5 DQ 2 One way to disagree with a review is to question the expectations, or criteria, that an author has for the subject of his or her review. Describe how well the website you have chosen for your evaluation essay meets your expectations/criteria. During the week, review your classmates’ posts and discuss similarities and differences between your response and your peers’ responses. The website that I chose to review is the National Institute of Mental Health. The NIMH website fulfills the purpose and objectives set forth by the organization which is to provide the public with information about ADHD, including where to access further assistance and resources. I found the NIMH website met my expectations through providing accurate, authoritative, and objective information that is current and fully covers the scope of the disorder. The supporting evidence noted during my review includes the webpage domain is a government entity, a division of the Department of Health and Human Services, which lends to the accuracy of the page. Authority of the webpage is noted in the methods to contact the NIMH. A “Contact Us” section located at the end of the webpage provides toll free telephone numbers, e-mail, online chat links, facsimile number, and a physical address. These services are available in English, Spanish, and for the hearing impaired (NIMH, n.d.). A second qualifier of authority for the webpage is the clinical trial link provided in the page. The NIMH conducts research on mental health disorders and publishes these findings. The NIMH webpage provides detailed non-judgmental information to the reader free of advertising or solicitation. The webpage also offers free resources through links to other government websites, and provided links for the reader to assess the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) advisory board for research, functions of the offices and divisions of the NIMH. With this webpage coming from a government agency, currency and coverage will remain a constant as long as ADHD is a public mental health issue.
