PSY-102 Topic 2 DQ 1 Select a sleep disorder – insomnia, sleep apnea, sleepwalking narcolepsy. Describe the sleep disorder and possible causes that may lead to the sleep disorder. Considering the possible causes and the information you read about the disorder, what are some possible treatments? Sleep apnea is a potentially serious sleep disorder in which breathing repeatedly stops and starts. The signs and symptoms of obstructive and central sleep apneas overlap, sometimes making it difficult to determine which type you have. The most common signs and symptoms of obstructive and central sleep apneas include: Loud snoring, episodes in which you stop breathing during sleep — which would be reported by another person, gasping for air during sleep, awakening with a dry mouth, morning headache, difficulty staying asleep (insomnia), excessive daytime sleepiness (hypersomnia), difficulty paying attention while awake, irritability. There are some different treatments to help with sleep apnea, which are surgery and CPAP. I have been diagnosed with sleep apnea recently and I have been given a CPAP to use to help me breath and to get some rest. I have not used it yet but my stepdaughter who also has sleep apnea said that she gets some good sleep. So hopefully it will work for me as well.
