The Critique of the American Beauty Film The summary of the plot The American beauty is a film that involves a middle-aged writer called Lester Burnham. Lester writes for a magazine and advertising company. Despite having this job, he despises it. He is married to an ambitious real estate broker, Carolyn. They have a daughter, Jane. Jane can’t withstand her parents. The Leisters’ neighbors are retired Marine Corps. The two have a son, Ricky, who works part time as a bar tender. His job serves him the front to his secret dealing in marijuana. Ricky is subjected to his father’s harsh disciplinary life style because he had been previously forced into the military academy and a psychiatric health facility (Mendes & Ball, 100-130). The Lester’s family is welcomed to the neighborhood by a gale couple, Jim Berkley and Jim Olmeyer, who lives next to their house.
