BOOK 24 SUMMARY
 Ac. Can’t sleep thinking about Pat and drags Hector around a tomb- Apollo protects it
from disfigurement
 The other gods pity Hector, but Athene, Hera and Poseidon remain hostile. Apollo pleads
Hector’s case. Zeus orders Thetis to tell Ac. He must return the body. He accepts
 Zeus tells Iris to tell Priam that he must take gifts to Ac. And ransom Hector
 Priam, after rounding on his sons, sets off with a bird omen from Zeus
 Hermes in disguise accompanies Priam safely to the Greek camp
 Priam supplicates Ac. And succeeds. They both weep and Ac. Compares Priam’s fate
with that of his father, Peleus
 Priam’s gifts are unloaded, and Hector’s body is placed on the wagon. Ac. And Priam eat
together and by night Hermes secretly leads Priam away
 Cassandra sees Priam. Andromache, Hecabe and Helen utter laments. Wood is
collected
 Hector is cremated and buried, and a grave mound is set up. A funeral feast is held in
Priam’s palace- the funeral is set to last 12 days as Ac. Promised
