Limiting Reactants
Definition:
The reactant which controls the amount of product
formed in a balanced reaction is called Limiting
Reactant.
OR
The reactant which consumes earlier in the reaction is
called Limiting Reactant.
OR
The reactant which is present in a lesser amount is known
as Limiting Reactant.
Example:
Burning of Coal.
Rusting of Irons.
Applications of Limiting Reactants:
Consumption of expensive Reactants:
The expansive reactants are always taken in a lesser
amount. So, that it is easily consumed in the
reaction.
Speed of Reaction:
Speed of Reaction is directly proportional to the
concentration of reactants. Due to the excess of one
reactant, the rate of reaction is very fast.
