FOREARM FLEXORS
ANTERIOR COMPARTMENT
Known as "flexor compartment" of forearm
Muscles arranged in two layers → superficial & deep
Movement
o Flexion & deviation of wrist
o Flexion of fingers & thumb
o Pronation
Innervation → All by median nerve
o Except flexor carpi ulnaris & medial half of flexor digitorum profundus
→ innervated by ulnar nerve
SUPERFICIAL LAYER
PRONATOR TERES
Origin → medial epicondyle of humerus & coronoid process of ulna
insertion → common tendon into lateral radius (midshaft)
Innervation → median nerve
, Action → pronates forearm & weak flexion
FLEXOR CARPI RADIALIS
Origin → medial epicondyle of humerus
Insertion → bases of 2nd and 3rd metacarpals
Action → flexion & abduction of wrist (radial deviation)
PALMARIS LONGUS
Origin → medial epicondyle of humerus
Insertion → palmar aponeurosis
Action → weak flexion of wrist, tenses skin of palm
, FLEXOR CARPI ULNARIS
Origin → medial epicondyle of humerus, olecranon process & posterior ulna
Insertion → pisiform, hamate & fifth metacarpal
Action → flexes & adducts wrist
FLEXOR DIGITORUM SUPERFICIALIS
Palmar
Origin → medial condyle of humerus
o Ulnar head - medial coronoid area
o Radial head - radial tuberosity area
Insertion → split tendons attach to the sides of the middle phalanx of the four fingers
(palmar surface)
Action → flexion of elbow, wrist & fingers
