This is to be used only for your education.  Cataract o Diagnosis  Visual Sensory Perception using an eye chart and brightness acuity test. Ophthalmoscope and look for any observed densities by size shape and location. As the cataracts get worse the OPACITY makes it DIFFICULT to see the RETINA and the Red Reflex may be absent. Pupil will appear to be blush white.  Usually affects one eye first but can be found on both.  As a person ages, the lens gradually loses water and increases in density. As the density of the lens increases, it becomes opaque. o Treatment  Surgery is the only Cure  Lens is extracted by Phacoemulsification- Meaning a probe is inserted through the capsule and high frequency sound waves break the lens into small pieces and then removed by suction.  After Surgery patient needs to wear dark glasses outdoors or in any bright lit environment until the pupil responds to the light.  Glaucoma- Type of eye disorder resulting in increased Intraocular pressure (IOP). The eye requires balance between Production and outflow of aqueous humor. If pressure is to high the compression results in poorly oxygenated photoreceptors and eventual vision loss o Types of Glaucoma  Primary Open –Angle Glaucoma- Most common type  Usually affects both eyes  Develops Slowly, with gradual loss of visual fields
