Skin Layers and Functions


Partial-Thickness Burns
Partial-thickness burns involve the entire epidermis and varying depths of the underlying dermis.
Partial-thickness burns are divided into 2 categories: superficial partial-thickness burns and
deep partial-thickness burns.




Superficial Partial- Thickness Wounds
Injury to the upper third of the dermis
Has a good blood supply
Wounds are pink and moist and blanch when pressure is applied
Blister formation occurs
Heal in 10-21 days
Usually no scar, but pigment changes can occur
