Features of a Website Report
I am going to be explaining the features of a website and will be evaluating the strengths and
weaknesses of three different websites. Each website has a different purpose which I will
explain below.

The purpose of this website is to entertain. This means that the website contains videos and
information which is seen as fun and enjoyable to view. This website is an easy to navigate
website, making it easy for a viewer to find a video they want to watch. Here are some of the
features included in the website:
1. Roll over feature on videos - The purpose of this feature is to show a snippet of the
video which a viewer is hovering over. This feature is useful and important as it means
that the viewer can choose whether to watch the video or leave it. They can choose to
click and watch the video further from watching the small preview from hovering over it
with the mouse. This improves the website as it means that the viewer can get a taste
of what videos they are about to watch, and it gets them to click on the video from
watching the small snippet video. If this feature did not exist, it may mean that viewers
may not click some videos and watch them due to not knowing what the video might
visually look like.
2. Search Bar - The purpose of this feature is
to allow a viewer to search up different
videos or channels. This feature is useful as it allows for a viewer to search up specific
videos that they want to watch, and it will direct them to videos which they have
searched for. When using the search bar, it also gives related words and this is useful if
a viewer wanted to find a specific video instead of a broader range of videos. If this
feature was not available or did not exist, it would be difficult for a viewer to find the
video they would like to watch, and could mean that they do not use the website as they
are unable to search for a specific video.
3. Simple and clear fonts - The purpose of this feature is ensure
that the viewer can easily read the text. By having it be simple
and clear ensures that it is readable. This improves the website
as it means that the website looks professional and easy to
read. It is important to have simple fonts and not hard to read fonts to ensure that the
viewer is not put off by something that may look unprofessional and unreadable.
, 4. Small grey ‘Suggestion’ buttons - The purpose of this feature is to give suggestions
of categories of videos which a viewer should watch. By having the colour of the
buttons grey could ensure that the feature does not disrupt any other features on the
website, as well as having it blend in well with the house style of the website. This
feature improves the website as it is small and does not disrupt the main features of the
website. The company may benefit from this feature as it allows a viewer to see
different categories of the website and encourages a viewer to find different types of
videos to watch
5. Logo - The purpose of this feature is to make the website
recognisable to a viewer as it is bold and red, making it
memorable. By making the logo bright and bold, it ensures that
there is a visual symbol which differentiates youtube from other
websites. This is beneficial for the company as means that the
website and logo is memorable and recognisable and the viewer is more likely to go
back to the website to find entertaining videos to watch. The logo is also a clickable
button which can bring the viewer to the homepage, and this feature is useful as it
allows the viewer to get back to the homepage quickly and easily.
6. Vertical navigation bar - The purpose of the feature is to give a list
of the different types of channels on Youtube which the viewer is
subscribed to. This feature is useful as it allows easy access to the
channels they are subscribed to. This feature improves the website as
it means that the viewer does not have to search for a channel they
want to find and it makes it quicker to find the videos which a viewer
wants to watch. The company may benefit from this feature as it
means that viewers are more likely to use this feature as it is easy to
use, increasing their engagement with the website.
7. Large red ‘Subscribe’ button - The purpose of this feature is to
make the ‘subscribe’ button easy to recognise and easily accessible
to a viewer. This feature is useful as it means that a viewer can stay
up to date with the channels video uploads. This feature improves
the website as it means that it encourages viewers to return to the channel they have
subscribed to and to continue to watch their videos. The company may benefit from this
as it means that viewers may come back to the website to continue to watch more
entertaining videos
8. Drop down bar - The purpose of this feature is to allow for a viewer
to click on it and it brings down the horizontal menu bar which allows
a viewer to click on different headings and sections of the website. It
is an important feature of the website as each section, which is
labeled clearly with a heading, is hyperlinked to a different page of
the website. This is useful as it means that there is easy access to
different sections of the website. This feature matches the house
style of the website, with the colours of white and grey making it look
professional and well put together
