PSY-102 Applying Psychology to Everyday Life
Reflection: Psychology to Everyday Life Applying Psychology to Everyday Life: A Reflection Psychology is applied to an individual’s life every day. It is the way our minds function and why we behave the way we do or feel the way we feel. In my life, psychology plays a huge role because I use it for my health, decisions, finances, and motivation in school. I do not only use Psychology in my personal life, but I will use it in my professional life and in my academic career. Learning and memory, motivation, health, and wellbeing, including personality and social psychology all apply to my everyday life and will in my future. Within my personal life psychology will be used for my health and my decisions. Being in college, I am overwhelmed when it comes to food because there are so many restaurants on campus and my day is so busy most of my meals are snacks or candy. According to Loewen, “Unhealthy behaviors are often the result of a psychological issue, some disorders such as anorexia and binge eating are much more involved than simply an unhealthy relationship with food.” (Loewen, 2018). As though my eating habits are nothing on these lines, this shows that psychology has a lot to do with my personal eating habits. When it comes to the many decisions I must make in my life, this will also be used by psychology. There will be many decisions I have to make throughout my lifetime. Some being the college I wanted to attend, jobs, and purchases. Loewen states that, “understanding the psychological process behind decision making, you can learn to make wiser decisions in all aspects of your life” (Loewen, 2018). I truly believe in this statement because understanding how your brain functions and processes will make you choose better decisions in your personal life.
