Assignment B – Teacher Language
This document should not be more than 3 pages long, including this page; approximately 700-1000
words in total.
a) Presentation
You do not need to show the entire presentation, but show us some of the language you would use to
elicit the target language from the context you have chosen, elicit the form, and concept check.
Show the Actual Words you would use for:
i) Eliciting the Target Language from the Context
T: So class, let me tell you about my morning. Last night I went to bed so late that I woke up late and
actually missed my bus this morning which made me late for work. So S1, what did you do last night?
S1: I had dinner and then went to sleep.
T: And what time did you sleep last night?
S1: About 8pm.
T: Is that early or late for you?
S1: For me, it is early.
T: And did you wake up late this morning?
S1: No , I woke up early
T: Okay so class, S1 went to bed early and in turn, he woke up early. Therefore, S1’s morning depends
on his bedtime.
On that note, today we will be learning about First Conditionals. Now using the information that S1
had given me, let’s try to write this down. S6, how can we write this in a sentence?
(if they do not know, I will further elicit)
Let me give you a clue, the sentence starts with “If”. (see board plan)
S4: If I go to bed early
T: Yes and what will happen if you go to bed early?
S4: I will wake up early
T: Great, let’s put that down. “If I go to bed early I will wake up early”. Now take a look at this
sentence together, how many clauses do you see?
S8: 2 clauses
T: Yes, now these 2 clauses are called the , Conditional/if clause and main/result clause. What
punctuation would we use between these 2 clauses to link them?
S: comma
