Running Head: REFLECTION ON LEARNING WEEKS 1 -8 1 Reflection on Learning Weeks 1 -8 Chamberlain College of Nursing NR500: Foundational Concepts and Advanced Practice Roles Running Head: REFLECTION ON LEARNING WEEKS 1 -8 2 Week 1 This week's learning was helpful in introducing the value of a master's degree and how a nurse with this degree practices, compared to a nurse who holds a bachelor's degree. What I got from this week was how important education is and how beneficial it can be when practicing. More knowledge leads to better patient outcomes and safety, which is always th e goal of a nurse, whether practicing with a bachelor’s or master’s degree. This extra education will help me as a future nurse practitioner diagnosis my patients, be able to critical think and overall help me care for my patients. Your future patients sh ould be able to trust you and the care you are providing them, which is what this degree will prepare me for. Week 2 What I look forward to as a new nurse practitioner is the long term relationships I will develop with my patients. It will be awesome being there throughout their care from start to finish. Finishing my master's degree will be such an accomplishment for myself and I am looking forward to the opportunities that will come with holding this degree. As far as concerns, it will be a huge adjustment with the amount of autonomy I will hold as a nurse practitioner. I am used to having doctors give me orders and being able to rely on them, but as a nurse practitioner I will be the one diagnosing the patient and coming up with their trea tment plan, which is most concerning thing to me about transitioning into my new role. What surprised me about the advanced practice nursing roles was the amount of opportunities you have and how different each role is. Although each role is quite differ ent, the end goal is always to care for the patient to the best of our ability.
