Robert Hooke: (1670)
- Microscoop met 30x vergroting
- Ontdekking structuren in cel leek op monnikscellen
--> vandaar ‘cel’

Antoni van Leeuwenhoek: (1673)
- Microscoop met 270 – 480x vergroting
- Voor het eerst bacteriën in bloed en water gezien
- Weigerde vr 50 jaar techniek te delen

--> betere microscopen bevestigen bestaan vd cel
--> meer inzicht in bouw van cellen en hoe ze zijn aangepast aan hun functie

2.2 observeren met de lichtmicroscoop

3.1 celwand
--> bij planten, fungi en bacteriën
--> niet bij dierlijke cellen

Bouw:
--> plantencellen:
- Celwand (= extra versteviging op celmembraan)
- Cellulose (voornaamste bestanddeel celwand)
- Bestaat uit vezelige moleculen en vormen netwerken
> mazen
> celwand doorlaatbaar

--> fungi:
- Celwand
- Opgebouwd uit chitine

--> bacteriën:
- Celwand
- Opgebouwd uit mucopeptide (alleen bij bacteriën) --> ‘achillespees’ vd bacterie
- Stoffen die mucopeptide kunnen aantasten
= specifieke antibacteriële stoffen
bv. antibioticum penicilline
- Dikke slijmerige laag op celwand (= glycocalyx)
