Differentiation= functie verdeling.
toe doen -> Use it or lose it.

NGF, BDNF, GDNF.
Repulsion= stoot neuron af.

Schwann Cells= reside in the PNS. Their main function is to support and insulate neurons by
forming myelin (layers of phospholipids) around the neuron.
Satellite Cells= reside in the PNS. Their main function is to form supportive capsules around
nerve cell bodies in ganglia.
Oligodendrocyte= reside in the CNS. Kleine cellen met minder vertakkingen. Their main
function is to support and insulate neurons by forming myelin (layers of phospholipids)
around the neuron. They are the CNS equivalent of Schwann Cells. Uitlopers maken myeline.
Astrocytes= reside in the CNS. Grootste cellen met veel uitlopers. Their main function is
divers: they take up and release chemicals in synapses, they provide neurons with substrate
for ATP production, they maintain homeostasis by taking up K+ and water and they form the
Blood-Brain-Barrier.
Ependymal Cells= reside in the CNS. Their main function is to create a selectively permeable
epithelial layer, the ependyma. Found in ventricles. Helpen met de productie van
cerebrospinal fluid.
Microglia= Kleine cellen. Are referred to as Glia cells, but are specialized immune cells and
thereby non-neuronal. Macrofagen
van het zenuwstelsel. Hebben een antigeen presenterende functie.
Radial glia= neurogenesis. Movement of new neurons through brain.

, - Ruggenmerg:
Roze gebieden= basale ganglia/kernen.

- Factors interacting with development:
Intrinsic:
• Genes
Extrinsic:
• Neuronal activity (‘use it or loose it’)
antidepressants)
