, SECTION 1: EXPERENTIAL LEARNING
1.2 Questions
1. I selected the Developmental context. I chose this topic as I think it is interesting to know how this
is dealt with, and how educational psychologists contribute in bettering the lives of these children.
Growing up, my brother also had learning difficulties, it is something I can relate with, and something
I have experienced first-hand. I gathered information on this from different sources, including
speaking to my mom about what happened when my brother had learning difficulties, I also read up
online about this topic.
2. The context of development includes socio-cultural, political and historical components. A lot of
times a child’s development will be influenced by their environment, and how they are raised. Their
parents, peers, family members and teachers play an important role on their development. Usually
development or educational psychologists are called to deal with these problems – activities include
therapy, in means of music, dance or art classes to help teach them to interact with others and follow
instructions.
3. A recommended process for addressing different elements of a child's physical and mental growth
and development is development evaluation. The procedure entails conducting precise evaluations to
determine the child's capacity to reach the specified developmental goal. Testing is essential for
keeping track of progress, planning future steps, reporting, and integrating parents, children, and
teenagers in the learning process.
4. Children are usually the ones being tested for developmental/learning difficulties, as these problems
would present themselves early on whilst attending school, by teachers.
5. The psychologist in charge of testing is responsible for storing completed record forms from tests on
a person's paper-based clinical record. The file should be labeled confidential and properly identified
with the person's first and last name, date of birth, and clinical record number. It will be filed by year
in the psychologist's test cabinet.
6. Tests are administered by registered psychologists, mainly an educational psychologist that have been
trained in the field, and they also administer the results. The results of the tests are usually discussed
through a verbal communication with the parents, explaining exactly what learning difficulty the
child has, and in other times a formal report will be submitted to the school in instances where the
child needs to move to a special school for kids with development problems. The test results can be
accessed by the psychologist, and staff members in charge of filing.
7. In this context, various tests can be conducted. General Cognitive functioning, in the form of
educational and clinical contexts through JSAIS, JSAIS-R, GSAT, LSAT. Another one would be
Developmental Measures in the context of education and clinical- through screening tests like SETT
and Griffiths.
8. Ethical issues like confidentiality and consent should be considered, however, due to it being a
child, the parents would have to give consent, and the results would have to be given to the parents.
The child would need to be counselled in a language she understands, for it to be efficient.
Confidentiality is ensured as counsellors/therapists have a strict confidentiality policy, where they
ensure confidentiality and secure storage of their records.
