Seizure Management (3 Questions)
1. During a seizure:
● Priority action: Stay with the client and observe/record the seizure (onset, duration,
type of movement).
● Next: Place towel/pillow under head to protect from injury.
● Do NOT restrain movements or place anything in the mouth.
● Side-lying position after seizure for airway protection.
2. If patient is clenching jaw during a seizure:
● DO NOT force anything in mouth.
● Check respiratory status (priority), monitor for apnea or hypoxia.
● Prepare suction after seizure for oral secretions.
3. Seizure precautions:
● Oxygen and suction available.
● Side rails up, padded.
● Bed in low position, loosen restrictive clothing.
u "Bow Tie" - Bacterial Meningitis Key Concepts
● Seizure precautions
● Low lights/dim room (photophobia)
