1) Test for carbon dioxide gas
- Add hydrochloric acid into the test tube
- Add limewater (calcium hydroxide) into another test
tube
- Add 1 scoop of the calcium carbonate into the
hydrochloric acid test tube
- Then, use the delivery tube to prevent the gas from
escaping
- Take the test tube with limewater and place the delivery
tube inside the test tube (delivery tube must be
touching the limewater)
- The test tube with limewater will bubble then turn
chalky -> carbonate is present

Q - When to know if you need test for carbon dioxide gas?
- When they ask to add dilute acid (can be sulfuric,
hydrochloric or nitric acid)
- the limewater will turn cloudy -> white ppt is form

2) Test for hydrogen gas
- Place lighted splint in the test tube

Q - When to know if you need test for hydrogen gas?
- When grey solid is added to acid
- This grey colour solid is most likely a metal (magnesium
ribbon)

3) Test for oxygen gas
