EXAM DESCRIPTION

The FTCE Exceptional Student Education K–12 (061)
examination is a computer-based certification test
administered by Pearson Evaluation Systems under contract
with the Florida Department of Education. The examination

,consists of approximately 80 multiple-choice questions with a
2-hour and 30-minute time limit and requires a scaled passing
score of at least 200. The test fee is commonly listed at $150,
and candidates must wait 31 calendar days before retaking the
examination.

The NAVA ED FTCE ESE study guide is fully aligned to the skills
and competencies assessed on the exam and includes over 200
practice test questions that cover everything assessed on the
FTCE ESE Test, so candidates can pass their exam the first time.
The guide includes detailed content sections for all
competencies of the test, practice test questions, detailed
answer explanations, and multiple scenarios and explanations
similar to the ones seen on the exam.

The examination is built from six official competencies

of Exceptional Student Education (23%), Assessment and
Evaluation (13%), Instructional Practices in Exceptional Student
Education (21%), Positive Behavioral Interventions and
Supports (12%), Multiple Literacies and Communication Skills
(21%), and the Transition Process (10%). Together,
Foundations, Instructional Practices, and Multiple Literacies
account for 65% of the examination.

This 150-question NAVA ED practice test bank mirrors the
actual certification examination format, providing exam-style

,multiple-choice questions with verified correct answers and
comprehensive rationales. Questions cover legal foundations
including IDEA, Section 504, and FERPA; disability
characteristics and eligibility criteria; assessment principles
including reliability, validity, and nondiscriminatory evaluation;
evidence-based instructional strategies including explicit
instruction, UDL, and differentiation; functional behavioral
assessment and behavior intervention planning; literacy and
communication development; and secondary transition
planning with Florida-specific graduation options.

restrictive). This reflects the IDEA principle that students should
be educated with non-disabled peers to the maximum extent
appropriate .
