, Section A: Crafting a voice
Read Text A in the Source Booklet before you answer Question 1.
1 Using information from Text A, write the text of a speech to be given by a member
of the Friends of Hollins Street Baths at a public meeting, held the week before the
council votes on the building’s future.
You may develop points from Text A, but you must use only the facts it contains.
Write the words of the speech only: do not add stage directions or images.
In your speech you should:
• use the conventions of persuasive speech
• shape your words for this audience and this occasion
• write in a way that will hold your listeners’ attention and win them over.
