M1 Discuss the role of energy in the body.

Energy can be defined as the capacity to do work but energy does not suddenly appear; it
has to come from somewhere.
The role of energy in the body is vast.
Energy fuels your body’s internal function, it repairs, helps build and also maintain cells and
body tissues and most especially supports external activities that enable you to interact with
the physical world.
Water plays an important role as it is the body’s most important nutrient that helps to
facilitate the chemical reactions that produce energy from food.
Energy supports systems of the body and other vital functions performed by vital organs in
the body. The needs of energy differ according to the age of an individual, gender, health
status, diet and the individual activity level.
Laws of energy
There are two energy laws (law of thermodynamics)they include;
The First Law of Thermodynamics, also known as the law of conservation of energy, states
that energy can neither be created nor destroyed although It may change from one form to
another.

The Second Law of Thermodynamics states that when energy is transferred, there will be
less energy available at the end of the transfer process than at the beginning.
Forms of energy
Energy can exist in so many different forms and the chemical form of energy is the most
common form of energy,
The energy is in the chemical bond that forms the atoms and molecules together when a
new bond is made with two atoms, energy is vital and is required for the formation and it is
mostly in the form of heat, light and electrical energy can also be used, if a bond is broken
and the atoms get released, the energy in the bond is released as well.
Other forms of energy include heat.light.sound, electrical etc.
Cells cannot survive on their own. They need the energy to stay alive. They need the energy
to perform functions such as growth, maintaining balance, repair, reproduction, movement,
and defence. This means all living organisms must obtain and use energy to live.
