😅 Unit 1
,Review 3UI
Diversity
1. Levels of Classification.
Domain Kingdom Phylum Class Order Family Genus Species
2. Know the Kingdoms and a few species from each.
Kingdoms (Animalia, Plantae, Fungi, Protista, Archaebacteria, and Eubacteria)
3. Types of bacteria (shapes)
Mono – one
Diplo – two
Strepto – chain
Staphylo – clump
Bacilli (bacillus) – Rod shaped
Cocci (coccus) – Round shaped
Spirilla – Spiral shaped (only found in singles)
Helix – Helix shaped (only found in singles)
4. Endospore formation
When the conditions are not adequate, the bacteria can produce an endospore in order
to wait out bad environmental times.
5. How bacteria reproduce
Asexual reproduction: Making identical copies of itself via Binary Fission.
Sexual Reproduction
6. Bacteria vs Virus (prokaryotes, eukaryotes, diagrams)
7. Lytic cycle vs lysogenic cycle
Lytic cycle: One virus goes in, takes over a cell then explodes and makes more viruses
then the other viruses go to other cells.
Lysogenic cycle: Virus merges with cells so you don't know you have it. Use your own
cell mitosis against you. It comes out and goes away. You always have it like a cold sore
8. Immunity and immune responses
Immunity is being immune immune response are like allergies they set off our immunity.
9. Describe the characteristics of fungi and how they reproduce.
Fungi are heterotrophic.
They depend on other organisms for their nutrition.
Reproduce sexually and asexually.
10.Why are fungi important?
, recycling of nutrients in the ecosystems.
Fungi along with bacteria change organic substances into the raw materials needed for
other plants to use to grow.
11.Describe protists.
Most protists are microscopic unicellular aquatic organisms.
12.How do all the kingdoms interact together to form a diversity of living things?
13.Dichotomous Key. Make and use one.
