, 1. Introduction to Organizational Behaviour
What is Organizational Behaviour?
• Organizational Behaviour (OB) is the systematic study of how individuals, groups, and organizational structures
influence behaviour in workplaces.
• OB helps managers understand employee behaviour and improve performance, satisfaction, teamwork,
communication, and organizational effectiveness.
• The field draws on psychology, sociology, social psychology, anthropology, and related behavioural disciplines.
Three levels of analysis
• Individual level includes personality, values, perception, attitudes, emotions, motivation, learning, and decision-making.
• Group level includes communication, teamwork, leadership, power, conflict, and group decision-making.
• Organizational level includes structure, culture, technology, policies, change, and the work environment.
Why OB matters
• Understanding behaviour helps organizations identify causes of poor teamwork, low morale, conflict, stress, and
performance problems.
• Managers can use OB concepts to diagnose workplace issues and select suitable interventions.
Key goals
• Explain workplace behaviour, predict likely responses to situations, and influence behaviour through effective and
ethical management practices.
