SCIENTIFIC REASONING COMPLETE STUDY
GUIDE WITH SOLVED QUESTIONS
◉ In words, describe the results of your first experiment.
Answer: My results where that apple slices have been providing the
highest weight gain compared to the other food sources. The results
were definitely not as expected.; however, they apple slices did win
by far.
◉ What is your experimental design for the second experiment?
Make sure to include:
a. The conditions you used to feed your mice (e.g., the foods you fed
your mouse and the length of time the mouse was in the light box)
b. Your control groups and why you chose them
c. How your design tested your hypothesis.
Answer: I utilized 1 unit of apple slices, cooked macaroni, and just
water . The negative control was water and the positive control was
cooked macaroni. Each time the mouse was in the light box for 1 day
at 21.5 Celsius. For the experimental group , I used apple slices for
all three trials . My hypothesis was confirmed to be incorrect due to
the apple slices being once again the higest in weight gain .
, ◉ Do the results from your second experiment repeat the results
from your first experiment? Explain your answer..
Answer: The results did not change drastically, but there was still a
change seen. Apple Slices still ended up the larger weight gain food .
Its gain increased and decreased but it was still higher than the rest
of the food sources.
◉ Did you collect qualitative or quantitative data? Explain your
answer..
Answer: Quantitative data was accumulated due to the samples
gathered being in numeric quantities.
◉ What other trials or experimental designs could you run to
further your experimenting?.
Answer: Perhaps various kinds of meats, different degrees of being
cooked including: well, medium , and lastly medium rare.
◉ science.
Answer: is a careful and methodological approach to studying the
world around us.
◉ T o F. Science must be reproducible.
