Before the War
There were a couple of important things going on before the start of the war. The
Spanish and French were long-time rivals of the English, the major difference being
their relations with Native Americans. There were also a lot of smaller wars were
fought between the British and the French leading up to the conflict in the Ohio
River Valley(French and Indian War). During this time, there were also efforts being
made to try and unite the colonies.
Cause of the War
The main cause of the war was thr conflict between the British colonies and France
over the Ohio River Valley. Both the British and French had started to build forts in
the area. The British sent George Washington to deliver a letter to stop building
forts on British land. Both the British and French had relations with the Native
Americans in the area(British= better goods, French=better relations due to
diplomacy. This all sparked the French and Indian war.
Importance- Why it mattered
After the war ended, the British had massive war debts to pay off. In turn, the period
of salutary neglect ended, and the British parliament enforced heavy taxes on the
colonies leaving the colonists angry. This began the start of conflict between the
British and its colonies because they were taxing colonists without representation in
the Parliament.
