Actions and Uses
o Atorvastatin is indicated for hyperlipidemia, with the goal of reducing
the risk of myocardial infarction (MI) and stroke.
o Atorvastatin helps reduce your cholesterol and lower your risk of
cardiovascular disease and rhabdomyolysis.
Contraindications:
o Serious liver disease
o Unexplained persistent elevations of serum transaminases
o Prior hypersensitivity to the drug.
Gemfibrozil (Lopid)
Therapeutic Class: Antihyperlipidemic
Pharmacologic Class: Fibric acid drug (fibrate)

Effects of gemfibrozil include up to a 50% reduction in VLDL with an
increase in HDL.
