Parametric test
o Parametric tests have to do with populations and
parameters (and a few other things)
o There are number of assumptions to using parametric tests
including:
• The variable is measured at the interval or ration level
• The values are normally distributed
• There are no outliers
o Parametric Procedures can only be used when:
• Interval or ratio level data AND
• Data are normally distributed AND
• There are no outliers
Nonparametric test
o Nonparametric procedures are used for:
• Nominal and ordinal data OR
• Interval/ratio level data that are NOT normally distributed
OR
• Interval/ratio level data with outliers

o Dependent:
• Paired, matched, repeated measures of the same variable in
the same person
• Design is a pre-test/post-test or pre-intervention/post-
