Plagiarism is the act of taking words, ideas and thoughts of others and passing
them off as your own. It is a form of theft which involves a number of dishonest

INTRODUCTION
Layisha Naidoo, 32-years old, contacted her company’s Employee Assistance Programme,
after the doctor informed her that she tested HIV positive. Since she does not know where she
could have picked it up, she suspects her husband of 11 years, Devan Naidoo (40), might
have had an affair. She felt like they drifted apart and therefore did not confront him directly
but withdrew from him. This made him even less attached to her. Their oldest daughter,
Saanvi (9), started taking responsibility of the two younger children, Sai (7.5) and Ishaan (5),
during pressing times for Layisha and this led to a decline in her schoolwork.
The EAP counsellor referred Layisha to a psychologist for treatment and assistance.
